"Death Note" Amdro Ant Block Commerical Directed by Rob Zombie

2012 Rob Zombie Tour Photos

Death Note” Introduction:

I wanted to review the “Death NoteAmdro Ant Block Commercial Directed by Rob Zombie and Starring Clint Howard. I wanted to review this Commercial on this blog for my Media& Society Class JN201 that I am taking at LBCC. Not only is this something I am required to do for my class but something I am very fascinated by since I have had a crush on Rob Zombie the director of this commercial since I was 16 years old. So I will admit many, many years since my fascination with Rob Zombie begun and I Still remain interested in his work. So I found this blog not only to be interesting and fun but I am hoping to be informational and appealing to his fans. ROB ZOMBIE ROCKS!!!!

Amdro
Clint Howard
Describe:

This commercial in 30 seconds long and debuted on April Friday 13th 2012 on Fearnet.com. This commercial is directed by Rob Zombie who you may know him from directing Halloween II,” House of 1000 Corpses” or Devil's Rejects.” Death Note Stares Clint Howard who you may know from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas ,” “Water Boy”or Little Nicky.”
This Commercial starts out by showing Clint Howard as a scary psycho stalker looking man piecing together a “Death Note.” In the background there is creepy music and a voice saying “You are messing with the wrong guy.” This Note he is piecing together says “You will die Ants.” From then it shows Clint Howard to be a seemly normal guy outside with the
Amdro Ant Block in his yard taking care of his ant problem. At the very end it says “No Mercy, No Bugs.” This is a single ad campaign by Amdro Ant Block.

Analyze:
I believe this Commercial used persuasive technique of hidden fear to persuade consumers into buying Amdro Ant Block. By using the Association Principle of fear. Consumers fear stalkers more than they fear ants so by making the consumer the strong stalker type we are able to kill tiny little ants. I believe this ad campaign did a great job of effectively making use of it’s medium by making the consumer a scary kind of hero and making a ant problem seem small in comparison.

Interpret:
I believe this to be a new and different idea from other ant killer ads today. Like the 2009 Othro max commercial which was very informational but very long and dull. “Death Note”commercial proves to be an inventive and new idea compared to others in it’s league. It is very familiar to Rob Zombie’s other commercial work like in the Woolite commercial he recently directed in 2011.I believe the target audience to be from 17 years old or older. I could not find anything to back my guess of the target audience but my guess comes for the fact that it doesn’t seem appropriate for non- R rated audience. “Death Note” does not use a clear use of stereotypes. Well unless the stereotype of a stalker psycho type but even at that rate it doesn’t clearly say anything about stalkers just gives a visual that makes you think of a stalker. Its all perception and my perception is that I do not find this to be offensive but a stalker may find it to be.
Evaluate:
Strengths of “
Death Note” are it is short, direct, and very original in comparison to other ads of the same type. Weaknesses of ”Death Note” are it is short, has a controversial view, and may not be appropriate for 16 years old and younger. I think this commercial is a very memorable commercial due to anything directed by Rob Zombie has a way for sticking in your mind. I defiantly see myself checking out Amdro Ant Block this summer. I will leave the stalking to Clint Howard and Amdro Ant Block.
Conclusion:
I learned while making this blog that there was a very controversial options of Rob Zombie’s commercials not that this should have been a surprise to me considering the various options of his movies and music but I never looked at from an age appropriate view point before. Not that it wavered my opinion of him or his work but it made me take a closer look to varies other opinions. I also learned that by becoming a member of
www.robzombie.com you can upload his pictures for free and that blogging is fun and hard work.
